PURPOSE
The website allows you to search my inventory of used and rare books by subject catalog and to filter by language.
Check as many of the subject catalogs in the right hand column as you wish (or leave blank to search all), filter by
language, or change the sort order, then click enter to produce an illustrated list.
SEARCH, ORDER, and PAY:
SEARCH FORMS: please note that the search function does not permit wildcards searches, such as "and", "or", "*" :
but the terms are buffered on each side by an asterisk:
so "hist" gets you "history" and "3570" as keyword returns all entry numbers from 35700 to 35709.
SUBJECTS: Enter a term like "philosophy" in the subject line to get all books in all of the "philosophy" catalogs, or check just the ones
you want from the Catalogs on the right.
REFINE: your search by language; arrange it by subject, year or price.
HOW TO ORDER A BOOK
COPY AND PASTE into an EMAIL:
Please copy and paste at least the Entry Number, Author, and Title of the books you are interested in.
Send them to me in an email by clicking on the "ORDER or INQUIRE" tab from the search page (or "CONTACT" tab on the main page).
Why is it important to include the Entry Number? - sometimes I have more than one copy of a title: I need to know which one you want.
My inventory is organized by unique inventory numbers, it is much easier to find your book using that number than just to know: "Wilson, My Life".
But since it is easy to type in a number incorrectly, please include redundant information such as author and title.
At this time there no shopping cart and no e-commerce option. My books are also listed on public databases which have these functions but
lack other refinements offered here. However, discounts are available only through direct inquiry. -
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND LOCATION:
why do I need your name and location? - shipping costs and methods vary by country. To best advise you on how to get the most
out of your order I need to know what country you are in. Including your name helps me address you politely, and allows me to set up
an order inquiry in my database, which is how I know which books to retrieve for you.
PAYMENT METHODS:
PAYMENT IN ADVANCE: payment is expected in advance. Libraries and institutions may be billed.
Paying by PAYPAL:
Customers in the US can pay most easily by PAYPAL. After I determine the total price of your order I will send you my
paypal address or a paypal invoice. Please do not make a payment until I have confirmed the total.
Paying by CREDIT CARD:
Due to the high costs and security issues of processing credit card payments, I now
do so only through paypal. It is easy to use your credit card via PAYPAL even if you do NOT have an account:
when you receive the paypal "invoice" from me through your email, you
simply use your credit card as a "guest" without setting up your own account. This method has been successful with
customers from many countries.
All are welcome to pay by cash, check, or (in Europe) by transfer to my German bank account.
Paying by CHECK:
checks drawn on US accounts are welcome.
Paying by transfer (UEBERWEISUNG) to my German bank account:
if you have a bank account in the EUR zone, you may pay by transfer to my German account. I will send the
necessary information when your order has been finalized.
SHIPPING SECRETS:
SHIPPING BOOKS IN THE US:
Shipping costs may change based on conditions of your order: weight, size, country. The following information is subject to change
to reflect actual costs.
Standard shipping by media mail: $4.25 for the first book, $1 for each additional book.
by priority mail, for books that fit into the priority mail flat-rate envelope: $9.45 per package, which may
hold one or two books. For larger books, the medium flat-rate box may be required, price on request.
SHIPPING COSTS OUTSIDE THE US:
Books under 2 pounds cost about $29+ to most counties. Inquire for details to your country. VAT issues to the EU must be addressed.
The standard flat-rate envelope "international priority airmail" (for books 2-4 pounds) costs around $41 to most countries.
It is often possible to ship two standard books or even 3 or 4 paperbacks in such an envelope. The envelope is however limited by
size and weight and the need to protect the books inside the thin cardboard envelope.
If you are paying by paypal, it may be necessary to add an additional %5.50 to the cost of shipping.
Please inquire for details about airmail and customs issues to your country.
There is no longer any surface or M-Bag option.
why is there no low-cost SURFACE MAIL? - There is NO surface mail from the US to international destinations. The US post
does not offer this service. A book that could be mailed in 2001 for $4 now costs around $20-41 to mail to Europe, for example.
STAMMKUNDEN: regular customers who agree to receive my notifications of New Arrivals or other communications either by email
may receive a %10 on the most expensive book in a single order, a 20% discount on all further books, and first look at New Arrivals.
My goal is to offer regular customers: Stammkunden - a substantial discount and reduced shipping costs wherever possible. A minimum order final total of $7 above
any transaction costs is required. It may not be possible to honor very small international orders as transaction and shipping costs make this impractical.
EXCEPTIONS: I reserve the right to alter the discount on books or on shipping
costs due to changes in shipping costs, costs of payment processing, risky shipments, low order totals, or other reasons.
There is no obligation to sell books in any particular transaction.
